I have to admit that when I first heard that The Great British Bake Off was moving from the BBC to Channel 4 I wasn’t optimistic that it would survive the move or that the new presenters would be able to pick up where the original team left off.

Having watched the first few episodes on C4, I think that it has clearly survived the move to C4 and the three new presenters (Paul Hollywood being the only original member of the team) work well together.

The audience is still treated to the inevtiable innuendos and obvious puns, now provided by Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding, between whom there seems to be very good rapport, who are excellent foils to Paul Hollywood (who maintains his serious demeanour) and Prue Leith (who brings tons of industry experience to the show).

However, there have been rumours that Holloywood and Leith are not on the best of terms, but who knows. In the age of fake news they could be the best of friends.

The proof of the pudding will be if the current members of the cast remain together for another series, or if the show (as happened on Have I Got News For You) bring in guest judges.

In the meantime, TGBBO will remain one of my guilty televisual pleasures.
