Planning permission has been granted for BSRE to develop a new £60m mixed-use student residential development on Hollis Croft in central Sheffield.  

hollis-croft_visual-historic-link-for-prThe planning committee unanimously approved the 972-bed scheme — designed by Sheffield-based architects, HLM — which will include a new 18-storey tower. HLM submitted plans for the extensive scheme in collaboration with DLP Planning, Matrix and Counter Context.

HLM’s 40,000sq m scheme will become a unique, high quality and vibrant student residential development, which will include student amenity spaces, a new student hub and commercial uses at street level. It is anticipated that the new development will not only contribute significantly to the on-going regeneration of Sheffield’s city centre but also generate new employment.

The design team at HLM incorporated elements of the site’s history taking reference from the former industrial character of the area. A new historic public pedestrian link will be created along the western edge of the site connecting Garden Street through to St Vincent’s Church. This gives connectivity across the site for residents and local people alike, which is currently lacking in the area.

The new 18-story tower, an integral part of the development, will become a new landmark in a part of the city designated for tall building development. There will be 251 self-contained studio apartments in the tower, which will enjoy views over the city and the Peak District beyond.
