We were commissioned by Baslow & Bubnell Parish Council to design a new community-based website.
The brief was to produce an informative and accessible website, but one that was not a typical council website. It had to be optimised for the main search engines and to be easy to use for all the residents of the village, irrespective of age and computer literacy.
We suggested that a new domain name should be used that woud have no refernce to the parish council, although the new site would become the new home for all matters relating to the work of the council. The councillors agreed to go with baslowvillage.com and the new domain was set-up on the WordPress platform (chosen for its stability, reliability, ease-of-use and search engine friendliness).
The suggested design layout had the flexibility to incorporate a significant amount of information, including the details of every business, community group and chariy operating in and around the village, as well as the latest news and real-time local weather. To ensure that the users were not bombarded with too much information we agreed on seven main navigation headings, under which all the information would be available.
The result is that we have deliverd an informative and accessible website that will become a resource for everyone in the village, whether resident or visitor. The site includes local news and weather, as well as extensive local information, including the history of the village and suroounding area. The parish councillors are very pleased with the result and we will be working with them on an on-going basis to ensure that the site is kept up to date.
